Bestest Mom
Published in Library Binding by Bt Bound (October, 1999)
Authors: Susan Hood and Ed Resto
Average review score:

This brought me to tears!
this is a wonderful story in which each of the babies give their mommy a present... except for chucky. he finds a picture of his mommy, and thinks it is "booty-ful". he gives the picture to his daddy and it makes him sad, making chucky think he doesnt like the picture. chaz tries to explain as well as he can to his young son that the lady in the picture is his late mother but she still loves him very much.

the part that really got me was the end where a lady reads a poem written by chucky's mommy. she tells him that even though she is gone, she will always be near him. one part is something like "when you feel the warm wind gently kiss your face, that is me, i will always be near you." ~tears~ while the lady is reading the poem chucky is playing innocently, never to know his mother, making the moment even more touching.

Have plenty of Kleenex ready
This is a wonderful story. Most of the book is very cute and shows a lot of each baby's imagination. But there are a couple of sad parts too that could bring on the tears. For instance, it's happy when Chuckie finds his Mother's picture and realizes it's the lady in his dreams; but it's sad when he shows the picture to Chaz and Chaz becomes sad (Chuckie thinks his Daddy doesn't like the picture, and he says to Tommy "I thought it was a pretty picture"). Also, the poem his Mother left for Chuckie is sad, but happy as well because he knows his Mother is still all around him. I really like this book and the Mothers Day special of the same story, but sometimes I really have to prepare myself for it because I know what's coming.

This is based on The Rugrats Mothers Day special
Angelica is making a present for her mom for mothers day but Chuckie dosen't have a mom but he had dreams of having one, but he can't give presents to a dream. Chuckie trys Spike to be a mom but he figures that won't work.

Blessings Every Day: 365 Simple Devotions for the Very Young
Published in Hardcover by Our Sunday Visitor (September, 2001)
Authors: Carla Barnhill and Elena Kucharik
Average review score:

Wonderful Book
We do our devotion with our four year old every day.We love it.
Easier for a child to understand.

Homerun Devotional Book for small children!!
This book has got to be one of the best devotional books ever published or small children. The daily devotionals are short and very, very applicable to the lives of children. Children attention spans are usually short so this book meets children where they. The devotionals deal with the issues that small children deal with or think about everyday. If you are considering a devotional book for your small children, this book is a must read. Your familiy will thoroughly enjoy the time that you spend reading through this wonderful book.

Cute books for young kids
Little Blessings books are cute little books that will capture kids with the adorable artwork and cute stories. My 6 year old received the Blessings Every Day book for Christmas and can't wait for us to read it every day. We also own What is God Like? and it is a cute story and makes a great book for kids learning to read or for a bedtime story book.

Book Lover's Page-A-Day 2003
Published in Paperback by Workman Publishing (August, 2002)
Author: Thomas J. Craughwell
Average review score:

Great Stuff!!
I got this as a gift last year and can't wait for this year's edition to arrive! Be warned: double your annual book-buying budget before you get this; you'll find at least one book a month that you absoltely MUST read. Amazon should give these things away, they'd make their money back a hundred times over.

These people know books!!!
I have been purchasing "Book Lover's Calendar" for the last 3 years or so, and have rarely been disappointed by any of their suggestions. The summaries are well-written, concise and educational. They have introduced me to some fabulous writers, and prompted me to re-read some forgotten favorites. A must-have for any bibliophile!!!

More Books Than You Will Read in a Year, But Ideas Galore
I have collected more book suggestions from "The Book Lover's Page-a-Day Calendar's" plentiful source than from any other. Admittedly, I have an eclectic taste in reading material and am always open to a good idea. 2003 will be the fourth year I will be reading the current day's page of "The Book Lover's Page-a-Day Calendar" a part of my morning ritual. My desk drawers and purses are filled with calendar pages torn off over the past three years. The one-paragraph reviews I saved are all about books meant to be further researched and either purchased, borrowed from the library, searched for in out-of-print venues or given as gifts to others. If you are a book lover, I'm sure you won't be able to resist finding out more about books under such headings as "Rediscovered Classics," "You've Never Read (fill in name of classic author)?" "The Writer's Life," "Worth Looking For," and other such teasers. The books reviewed are not always the most popular or well-known, but most have some nugget of appeal that will pique your curiosity. I'm looking forward to starting the 2003 calendar, which like its predecessors, I'm sure will not disappoint. I've learned to order this calendar early on because I've sometimes spent the end of the year searching for a place that still has copies available.

Branson's Best Day Trips - A Guide to Discovering the Best of Branson & Ozark Mountain Country
Published in Paperback by Ivy Publishing, Inc. (November, 1999)
Author: Carol A. Shaffer
Average review score:

Local Shaffer Writes the Ultimate Branson Book
Now this is a guidebook, written by Branson "local" Carol Shaffer. Branson's Best Day Trips mixes area history (better than any show!) and photographs with a complete guide to Ozark attractions from shows to inexpensive day trips in the area. After all, the Ozarks do not begin and end on the Strip; Shaffer takes you to surrounding communities, and provides 19 maps and detailed directions clear enough for even the most directionally-impaired traveler! To top it off, Shaffer's writing style is delightful. We highly recommend this book.

Very helpful book
We used this book throughout our vacation. The maps were great. Our favorite chapter was the one to Branson's free attractions. We would have missed a lot had it not been for this book and would recommend it to anyone.

Excellent resource!
Wow, what a great book! I can't believe how much information is in here. Carol obviously knows the area and I think she was able to explain a little of the background behind the different places without becoming a history lesson. I also think the maps are very clear and plenty easy to read and I think the text was well written. I especially like the section on how to navigate the various side-roads (if you've been to Branson you know how bad the traffic can be). I went on vacation to Branson before but only got to see a third of what is in this book - now I can't wait to go back again!

Bright Moon at Mid-Day
Published in Paperback by 1stBooks Library (March, 2002)
Author: Thomas C. Chace
Average review score:

Adventurous and Entertaining.
I read "Bright Moon at Mid-Day." I loved it! It was easy to read and flowed very well.
Another thing I liked was there was always something happening. When one adventure ended another was in the works.
I like to be entertained when I read, that is the idea, and this book did just that.
I actually was left wondering how and what the family did when they came back to the lower forty-eight.
It is a good book!

Characters I cared about
This is a book I hated to put down and looked forward to getting back to - I wanted to see what would happen to this family I had grown to care about. Living in Alaska at the turn of the 20th century wasn't easy under the best of circumstances, yet William Miller's growing family thrived during their 10-year stay. Of course Miller's phenomenal luck was more than a little helpful here.

Though the story is fiction it is based upon the lives of the actual Miller family, and to me that made the characters all the more interesting.

"Bright Moon" is Terriffic!
Exciting! Every chapter is an adventure. The growth of this courageous and loving young couple as they raise five children in the inhospitable Northern Alaska town of Candle, near the Arctic Circle, is a wonderful book for all ages. I especially liked the love and caring for their sled dogs. The change from a chauvenistic male to a loving and caring husband and father is the underlying theme as far as I was concerned. A fine read!

Can You Keep a Secret

I Give This Book Major Props!
I thought this book was totaly excelent. This book was mostly about Miko acting different and hanging out with a very popular boy named Cleve who hangs out with the Ones. The CSGs see Miko acting this way and get worried and decide to throw a party for Miko to make her feel better. Miko decides to totaly change her image and asks Rockett to help her but Rockett isn't so sure this is a good idea. I thought the ending of this book was excellent, I recomend this book to everyone. But make sure the read the 3 books before this one so you kind of know whats going on with the people at Whistling Pines Junior High.To find out what's wrong with Miko read this totally phat book.

This One was really great!
I really liked this Rockett book! I found it to be more detailed and longer then the others and it was more entertaining. The storyline was captivating and it was great to see a character go through a major change. THe final climax was sorta unexpected, but so was the whole story! Find out why Cleve and Miko start hanging out and also find out why Rockett is spending so much time with Nakili and Dana, and actually getting along with Dana! This is a great book in the Rockett Series and i loved it!

rockett's world #4
This book tells about friendship and trust between friends. Rockett, a grade 8 studeny, wants to cheer up her friend Miko by throwing a surprise party for her, but things start to go very wrong. I like this book because it portrays the problems that pre-teens go through and how they try to solve them.

Canoe Days
Published in Hardcover by Doubleday (09 March, 1999)
Authors: Gary Paulsen and Ruth Wright Paulsen
Average review score:

Dreamy!
I love books that combine beautiful artwork with rich text. This is a winner in my mind! The words and pictures in this book make you feel like you're right there in the canoe, feeling and seeing all that the author describes. A dreamy little ride I'll enjoy taking again and again!

Canoe Days is entrancing!
Opening this book is like getting into a canoe, taking up a paddle & gliding out into the beauty of a small lake for a day of peace & pleasure where the water & sky are one. Where neighborly deer, heron, mallards, foxes & raccoons come down to the water. A wonderful gift!

Canoe Days
This book takes the reader on a canoe ride across a lake where many animals and types of fish are encountered. Paulens's word choices are excellent. It has excellent color illustrations and is highly recommended for 3rd and 4th graders.

Casey's Day at the Beach (Casey the Beacon Hill Cat Series)

Author: Jane S. Staffier

We took Casey on vacation and enjoyed ourselves!
Casey was enjoyed by us at the beach and was a great way to extend the 'beachtime' after we came home.

Charming Casey is fun for adults and kids!
Reading about Casey the Beacon Hill cat's adventure day at the beach was fun for me and the pre-schoolers I was reading it to...highly recommended!

A great gift for a child's summer birthday!
With summer holidays coming, I was looking for a birthday gift for a pre-schooler and "Casey's Day at the Beach" is great! This cute cat provides a fun introduction to the water for a child. Kids love rhymes and "Casey" has a verse on every page. The book is a great activity book to take to the shore as the line drawings can be colored. Finally, a nice read-to good night story for a child.

Castles
Published in Paperback by McGraw-Hill (October, 1986)
Authors: Alan Lee, David Larkin, and David Day
Average review score:

Wonderful look at castles
This book is a visual map of the castle that is a must for every history/romance/medieval buff. It can be too conplicated to imagine all of the inner and outer structures of a working castle. Lee's work can give the reader a firm foundation to build on with his fantastic illustrations.

Buy It! Buy It! Buy It!
Amazing! Alan Lee is an incredable painter/illustrator. His work in this books brings to life not only the Castles he paints, but the people and the time in which these castles are located. The work spans historical as well as fictional locations, all of which make me wish that there was a print store right next door. This book is perfect for children and adults alike. Awesome, in the truest meaning of the word.

A look into the castles of legend, history , and fiction.
When I first read this book when it came out way back in 86, I was blown away. The artwork was the best I had ever seen in a book like this, and the retelling of different myths to go along with each castle presented read like a fantasy story for history buffs. It covered classic celtic strongholds, all the stories surrounding the Arthuranian mythos, faerie castles, and those fortresses of the likes of Ghormenghast and Edgar Allen Poe's House of Usher. I would have to reccommend this book for all those lovers of fantasy and of great art.
